July 22nd - 24th: Thunder Lake Basecamp Backpacking Trip

Our Thunder Lake Basecamp Backpacking trip is a stunning two-night trip that is considered very challenging, both due to elevation gain, high altitude, and mileage. We'll hike 7 miles the first day and climb 2,100 feet to our basecamp, which sits at 10,570 feet. The total trip will consist of anywhere between 18 to 23 miles. Our starting point is the Wild Basin Trailhead which is approximately 2 hours from Denver.

Itinerary
The day before your trip, your RMHC guide will meet with you to double-check you have everything you need to make your adventure as enjoyable as possible.
Day 1: We'll meet at the Wild Basin Trailhead in Rocky Mountain National Park at 6am and begin our 7 mile hike to the campsite, climbing 2,100 feet of gain. We'll take our time along the way and enjoy the beautiful scenery of the remote wilderness. Our campsite is at the famous Thunder Lake, located at 10,570 feet. We'll spend the evening setting up camp and enjoying our dinner and dessert!
Day 2: The morning will start off with a mountain breakfast and hot beverage. We'll spend the afternoon day hiking and exploring the surrounding lakes, and we'll have the option of going to Box Lake, Eagle Lake, and/or Lake of Many Winds. The evening will be spent relaxing at basecamp and enjoying the peacefulness of the remote wilderness.
Day 3: After waking up and enjoying breakfast and coffee or tea, we'll make our way back to the trailhead - The hike back will be around 9 miles and slightly different from the initial hike in, as we'll stop by Ouzel Falls!

Cancellation Policy
Payment in full is required to register. Trip cost includes a 15% non-refundable administrative fee. Hikes can be canceled up to 2 weeks before the trip for a refund (minus the 15% fee). Within 2 weeks, a 50% refund will be offered. Within 48 hours, a refund will only be offered if Rocky Mountain Hiking Company cancels the trip due to severe weather.

If your guide does an exceptional job, please feel free to show your appreciation with a tip. Industry-standard gratuity for a guided backpacking trip is 15-20% of the trip price.
