Are you interested in backpacking in either a group or solo, but still need more information before you get on the trail? Created for folks who are new to overnight trips, you'll get all the tools you need for feeling more confident, knowledgeable, and comfortable backpacking.
What You Get
In this Intro To Backpacking course, you'll learn:
- Which gear to bring
- Specific gear recommendations for keeping your pack a comfortable weight
- Which food to bring
- How to pack your pack
- How to get organized for a backpacking trip when working full-time
- Altitude & weather considerations
- What to do during wildlife encounters
- Tips for working through fear going into a trip
- How to get a permit for National Park trips
- Specific trail recommendations
- Opportunity to ask questions and speak with others who are new to backpacking
- Carly will share personal stories about her backpacking experiences
- Snacks are provided. Guests are asked to please bring their own water.

About Your Host: Carly Moree
Carly Moree was the first woman to attempt the men's unsupported record on the 223-mile John Muir Trail/Nüümü Poyo. She is the co-author of the popular thru-hiking book Pacific Crest Trials.
Despite having an enormous amount of fear, she has hiked and run thousands of miles on trails, including the Grand Canyon rim to rim to rim, both the Pacific Crest Trails, Appalachian Trail, and Tahoe Rim Trail.
Her work is featured in REI and Larabar, and she is the co-host of the Appalachian Mountain Club's podcast Unlikely Stories.
